The Villages Old Time Radio Players

The OTR Players re-create programs from scripts found on the Internet or transcribed from recorded programs. Actors from local theater groups and the club members are used for the dialog. Sound effects and music are obtained from various sources, edited, and played from a computer program according to cues in the script.

A special aspect of the Players is that dialog lines used by actors need not be memorized, because in radio, the audience could not see the actors reading the script. We do the same except the audience does indeed see the actors, microphones, and scripts. Thus the performance is a cross between acting on a stage and in a radio studio. Sometimes the actors dress the part they are playing. Otherwise the dress code is business attire very much as any professional would wear when going to the office (studio) in downtown.

The Villages Old Time Radio Players perform their re-created programs not only for the Old time Radio Drama Club members but for other social clubs in The Villages as well. The group has performed at dozens of venues with a combination of comedy and drama programs.

In the photo, the Players perform a George Burns and Gracie Allen comedy for the Village of Collier social club.

The Players have also performed for churches and assisted living facilities to bring back the memories of the Golden Age of Radio.
